Long Island City, New York
The Velez Organization started back in 1993 as Construction Manager for the New York City School Construction Authority’s Mentor Program. We have reprised our role most recently as the Program Manager for the MTAP (Mentor Technical Assistance Program). MTAP seeks to increase, facilitate and encourage the participation of minority-owned, women-owned and locally based enterprise (MWLBE) firms by providing a flexible framework for eligible firms to develop and grow within the construction industry and to establish long-term business relationships with the SCA, and other public and private sector entities.
Velez provides business capacity building for over 100 firms in the form of direct coaching, training and mentoring of MWLBE contractors including producing assessments and evaluations, holding one-to-one and group coaching sessions on administrative and technical issues, assisting contractors in applying for financing and bonding, providing business development support and direction, and assisting contractors in transitioning to the union environment.
