The Elmhurst Hospital Modernization project for the NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation is a good example of the Velez Organization’s capacity to successfully manage and maneuver numerous contractors and trades towards the timely completion of a large, complex project. Construction began in 1990 and included 640,000 SF of new additions/ renovations and is scheduled for completion in 1996. The total construction value was $140 million. The Elmhurst Hospital was originally constructed approximately 50 years ago. Department relocations and advances in medical equipment and communications technology required additional cabling, piping and boiler systems to replace the outdated equipment.
