Velez believes in meeting or exceeding contract requirements for Minority/Woman-Owned Business Enterprises (M/WBEs) participation. For nearly 50 years, Velez has been a certified Minority Business Enterprise with New York State, as well as numerous other certifications with agencies such as New York City, Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY) and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.
Velez has a strong commitment to including M/WBEs in all its work. Elizabeth Velez acts as the firm’s community liaison and administrator of its minority/small business participation program. She has also co-chaired a seminar on women entrepreneurship for the NYS Assembly and is a board member of the Association of Minority Businesses of New York and the Latino Builders Council. Moreover, she sits on the Diversity Advisory Board for the New York State Department of Transportation, the New York City Department of Environmental Protection, the New York City School Construction Authority, and the New York City Department of Small Business Services.

Development
As a construction manager and developer, Velez takes total responsibility for planning, designing, building construction, marketing and selling of residential housing. Velez works closely with local communities by creating jobs that turn neighborhoods into economically viable areas. It has developed over four hundred units of single and multi-story dwellings and rehabilitated over one hundred units of multi-story buildings.

Resiliency
The resiliency sector involves the most complex of projects that are comprised of inherent challenges and risks. It takes expertise and precision to perform work on an existing structure and making it sustainable. Velez has been very active in the resiliency sector. Velez’s resiliency services involve providing up-to-date enhancements and maintenance to aging infrastructure. The Velez team has also provided specific construction management and community outreach services for clients working on restoration projects such as the New York City’s Build It Back programs and the Hudson River Park Trust.

The Velez Organization has recognized the critical importance of capacity building, and access to opportunities as we have grown over our 50 years of business. Through this, Velez developed a guiding principle to support effective capacity building programs. Since 2018, Velez has been at the helm of building on the success of the SCA Mentor Training Assistance Program (MTAP) by leveraging our relationships and sharing our strategies with over 200 members of the program.
Ranked as the premier Mentoring Program in NYC, The MTAP Program provides Technical and Business Development Training in various topics related to SCA Construction Projects.
The MTAP team is comprised of business development professionals with experience in contract administration, strategy, business growth, and cost estimating. Under the direction of SCA’s Business Development Division (BDD), The Velez Organization manages the MTAP program by providing coaching, mentoring, and training support needed for mentor firms to grow.
The NYC SCA Mentor Program centers on capacity building and providing its firms with the necessary tools to complete both within the SCA and other state and local agencies. This is accomplished by providing a high level of training that includes comprehensive workshops that teach contractors construction management via contract administrating, estimating, blueprint reading, project management with case studies, cash management, and general contract condition workshops.
